Job Description: Tax Manager

As we grow our tax services, we are seeking a knowledgeable and hands-on Tax Manager who is willing to step into this growth area and help lead the firm in the tax market.

 

Position Overview

The Tax Manager will lead our tax practice, which will mainly consist of preparing federal and state tax returns for individuals, small businesses, and non-profit entities. This person will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of the tax returns and assisting with training on new compliance and tax matters. This role combines technical expertise with strategic advisory responsibilities and offers opportunities for autonomy, practice development, and mentorship.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance & Technical Expertise

  • Prepare, manage and review federal and state tax individuals, businesses, and tax-exempt organizations (e.g., Forms 1040, 1120, 1065, 1120-S, 990, 990-PF. etc).

  • Stay current on IRS regulations, tax-exempt laws, and governmental compliance requirements.

  • Ensure accuracy and timely completion of all compliance work.

 

Client Advisory & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned tax clients.

  • Provide proactive guidance on tax-exempt matters, compliance strategies, and organizational structuring.

  • Communicate complex tax topics clearly to boards, finance teams, and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Team Leadership & Workflow Management

  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff accountants.

  • Manage workload and project timelines to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Review and enhance tax preparation processes, documentation practices, and internal quality controls.

 

Practice Development

  • Assist in developing tax service offerings and expanding firm capabilities.

  • Participate in networking, industry events, and relationship-building.

  • Contribute to proposals, pricing, and onboarding of new clients.

 

Qualifications

Required

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of tax experience, with at least 2 years preparing and reviewing tax returns.

  • Strong understanding of tax regulation.

  • Willingness to stay current on changes in tax regulation.

  • Experience supervising staff and managing multiple engagements simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and client-service skills.

 

Preferred

 

  • Experience working in a small-firm environment.

  • Proficiency with tax software commonly used for tax return preparation.

  • CPA license

  • Interest in contributing to firm-level planning, process improvement, or training initiatives.
